The taproom is a meeting place for friends and family to enjoy a pint of local Nova Scotia craft beer. It is a rustic space that reflects a bygone era. The walls are decorated with photographs from the 1800s and 1900s, and the whole space pays tribute to the heritage of the town. With recent listings in the NSLC, Two Islands beer is now more accessible to the entire province. Our pick is their Parrsboro Porter.

PINTS & PLATES: Tatamagouche Brewing Co Helles Brats and Onions
Located at 235 Main St, Tatamagouche, NS, Tatamagouche Brewery, a family-owned organic brewery that produces incredibly well-made handcrafted beer, sits in the middle of this small but bustling Nova Scotian town. Opening in 2014, they converted an old butcher shop into the current brewery and have been growing ever since. Their beer ranges from the familiar to the weird, but in offering such, they have literally created a beer for everyone. This brewery is one of the more adventurous in the province; they are not afraid to push the envelope regarding either flavour or style. Although there is usually something new to try, one can always find the classics on tap. Our beer of choice is their Square One Saison or Jitney Dry Hopped Sour.

Located at 363 Main St, Mahone Bay, NS, Saltbox has a strong focus on community, relationships, and family. This craft brewery services Mahone Bay and Nova Scotia’s South Shore. It has a welcoming tap room and often have food trucks parked outside so that patrons can enjoy a delicious meal with their freshly brewed beer. With both indoor and outdoor space, this brewery really accommodates everyone. They have also expanded to Bridgewater, under namesake King Street Beer, and to Lunenburg, under Lightship Brewery. They have a line of standard beer offerings representing most popular styles. Their Bluenose Ale is a nice easy drinking pint to enjoy in the summer heat.

They have been brewing since 2017, where they went from brewing under the patio to the independent brewery that they are today. They pride themselves on pushing the boundaries of regular brewing styles. As one of the most southern breweries in Nova Scotia, they are committed to producing quality beers and engaging in craft beer culture. They have a line of standard beer offerings but also experiment with a variety of fruit and unique ingredients. Their Wheat Kings Pineapple Wheat is a summer sensation.

Located at 281 Water St, Shelburne, NS, Boxing Rock make both unique and approachable beer for a range of beer drinking palates.  Shelburne, Nova Scotia is an historic community known for a range of picturesque heritage homes and buildings. The brewery itself was founded by a couple of chemical engineers in 2012 who loved the area and set out to produce great beer for everyone to enjoy. Boxing Rock offers a line of standard beer offerings but also releases speciality and barrel aged brews. Their Vicars Cross DIPA is a Nova Scotian favourite.
