The Harbour Brewing Co Ginger Pale Ale Beef

Serving 4 | Prep time 10 mins | Total time 25 mins

Ingredients:

Sauce

  • ½ cup soy sauce
  • ½ cup Harbour Brewing Co Ginger Pale Ale
  • 2 tsp Maggi sauce
  • 2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • ½ cup brown sugar

Batter

  • 1 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ½ cup Harbour Brewing Co Ginger Pale Ale
  • 1 egg
  • 500 gm flank or skirt steak
  • 3 cups vegetable oil
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 minced garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp minced ginger
  • 3 sliced green onions
  • 1 sliced Thai chilli pepper


Pairing Suggestion – Out of the Gate Blonde Wheat

Instructions:

  • Mix ½ cup soy sauce, ½ cup Harbour Brewing Co Ginger Pale Ale, 2 tsp Maggi sauce, 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar, and ½ cup brown sugar in a large mason jar. Shake until combined and set aside
  • In a large bowl, whisk 1 cup corn starch, 2 tbsp flour, 1 tsp pepper, ½ cup Harbour Brewing Ginger Pale Ale, and 1 egg until smooth
  • Slice 500 gm flank steak into 1cm strips and toss in batter
  • Heat 3 cups vegetable oil to medium high in a Dutch oven or other heavy pot
  • Add battered beef to hot oil and cook for 2 – 3 minutes per side, turning occasionally until crispy and brown
  • In a separate pan, add 2 tbsp sesame oil and heat to medium high. Add 2 minced garlic cloves, 2 tbsp minced ginger, and the crispy beef. Add sauce and stir. Simmer for 4 – 6 minutes or until sauce has reduced by 1/3 and thickened
  • Serve beef over rice, add sliced green onions, and sliced Thai chilli pepper
  • Enjoy!
